Privacy and Teenagers, can they earn some?

Consider this, a 15 year old boy who has not been in trouble of any kind. He has a 4.0 GPA or with considering honors classes 4.5 GPA. No big issues like substance abuse, sneaking out at night, etc. etc. No breaking the law. Not a single problem at school. He’s Catholic and he goes to a private Catholic school. Things are going great at school. And…the issue of dating comes up.

He asked his parents for permsision to date. They set specific guidelines. One is that his parents have to meet the girl.
He sets up a meeting with his new girlfriend at the public library. He does not inform his parents.

His baby sitter drives him. His mother gets word that he is going to go to the library for 2 or 3 hours. This is something he has never done before. She drives furiously to pick him up. She confronts him and he stammers and then admits he met her there. He didn’t leave with her to go anywhere. He gets grounded for a week. He loses his phone for a week.

He puts a privacy block on his phone. This angers his mother.

Should she force him to remove the privacy block?

What do you think?
